We are an IT Recruiting Company, we place qualified professionals in contract and permanent job opportunities, and are interested in obtaining a GSA contract. We have lots of information for getting a contract but not much information on business opportunities available once recieving a contract. Does anyone have information on what typical positions are available through GSA? how many in a given month or year? What are the best locations?

I appreciate any insight into business opportunities available to IT recruiting companies through a GSA contract.

Your best bet for finding business opportunities is to develop a marketing plan. Marketing to the government is similar to marketing to commercial clients, in that you must get your company's name and info in front of the individuals responsible for purchasing your services.

As a first step, we would suggest looking on Fedbizopps.gov, which lists all government solicitations that are open or have been awarded. If you find some that have been awarded, get in touch with the point of contact to find out when a new solicitation will be issued for the next year's budget.

Additionally, there are a number of reports that you can run on http://ssq.gsa.gov, which will show you what funds were spent under specific GSA Schedule special item numbers.

And, of course, word of mouth is the very best marketing your business can have. This includes sending out feelers to your government procurement contacts as well as keeping aware of what's going on in the government marketplace. You can do this by attending government trade shows and SBA forums, getting in touch with your local Small Business Development Center as well as each government agency's Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization.

Please feel free to contact our office for further information about any of these suggestions.

Good luck.
