********FRAUD ALERT*******
Vendors Are Advised to Protect Their Confidential
Business Information When Registering with the Government’s
Central Contractor Registry

In October 2002, potential acts of fraud against companies registered with CCR were brought to the attention of investigating organizations. Individuals have attempted to continue perpetrating this fraud since that time, and all government contractors registered through CCR should be aware of at least two fraudulent letters circulating among contractors, some who do business with the government and some who do not. These letters advised companies of the need to register in the CCR in order to receive procurements from Department of Transportation and to fax copies of the CCR worksheets (which includes confidential information) to a DOT Procurement office at a specified fax number (which is not a government number). Some of these letters used official names and titles.

These letters are fraudulent and should be forwarded to the DOT IG. As always, please confirm any request for confidential information with a known or published contact at the requesting organization.
